Nice article Kristen. I have a four-year-old that has a late summer birthday. He is in preschool now and he'll go to pre-K next year. He will be a young six instead of a young five when he starts kindergarten. After doing a good bit of research on the topic and talking to other educators and lifelong kindergarten teachers, I'm confident that I'm making the right decision for my son. He is very bright, but I'm not concerned about him being bored. He is the oldest in his class, but there are a bunch of other boys that are turning four just a few months after him. I think there is no right or wrong answer. Everyone needs to make the decision they think will be best for their child.

Thanks Kristen. That just reaffirms other feedback from educators, day care providers and other parents who pushed ahead.

Fantastic article, my dear! Be sure to include the link in the comment section of my article.

And yes, I definitely want to talk to you about this...but just when I get closer to making a decision. He's only 3 so I plan plan to extensively monitor him this next year at preschool. I agree--I do not want to hold him back after we have already started. I have had several people tell me what a hit that does to their self-esteem and I don't want to make him endure that!
